What the role involves

• They must be aware of the safe working limits of their crane to ensure that loads are not too heavy.
• Hooks, raise, move and place loads.
• Monitoring speed, acceleration and braking distances directly by signaling to other operators.
• Monitoring plant operation and equipment to detect malfunctions and problems.
• Lubricate ropes and winches.
• Replace worn cables.

Skills and requirements

• The Hoist and Elevator operators may hold two different types of certificates.
• Personnel Hoist and Construction Elevator Operator (PHCEO).
• Car Switch and Construction Use Elevator Operator (CSOCEO).
• Knowledge of mobile cranes, lifts, hoists and winches.

Additional role context

• They must check the condition of the ground, looking for potential obstacles.
