First Year Apprentice Carpenter (Entry Level — Voyageur Trades Program) focuses on assisting with framing, formwork, finishing, installation of building materials, and operation of tools and equipment.
What the role involves
- Assisting with framing, formwork, finishing, installation of building materials, and operation of tools and equipment.
- Supporting layout preparation, measuring, cutting, and material handling activities.
- Complete general labour duties including material handling, prep work, cleanup, and tool maintenance.
- Participate in in-house carpentry training through Voyageur Trades, as outlined by the Journeyperson Carpenter.
- Follow safety protocols and contribute to maintaining organized and safe workspaces.
- Contribute to community-based builds and labour projects.
Skills and requirements
- Must meet the minimum requirements to apprentice as a carpenter, according to Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training, which includes but is not limited to: English 10-2.
- A pass mark in all 5 Canadian General Educational Development (GED) or Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) tests, or a combination of both GED and CAEC which comprise all 5.
- Ability to follow direction, work safely, and take initiative.
- Physical ability to perform lifting, bending, climbing, and indoor/outdoor work.
